The great gatsby
Summer, 1922, Long Island, New York. Nick Carraway, a mid-westerner, moves to West Egg on the Long Island Sound to work for a company in New York but what he does not know is he has just been intertwined in lies, love affairs, and killings that will unfold in the three coming summer months. During his first few days in New York, Nick hears of a man named Gatsby and all of the rumors that cloud the mans mysterious name. It is not until Nick meets Gatsby that Nick realizes what he has gotten himself into. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, the American dream crumbles and the shallowness of the highest class is revealed and it beings with one question, "Gatsby? What Gatsby?"
On his first evening in New York Nick goes to his second cousin's house, Daisy Buchanan, the wife of Tom Buchanan, Nick's college friend, for a dinner where he meets Jordan Baker. The first stories and lies are told over the dinner table and it is revealed that Tom is involved in an affair. Gatsby is first mentioned when Jordan asks Nick if he knows him since they are neighbors. A few days later Tom takes Nick to the Valley of Ashes to meet his mistress, Myrtle Wilson. She is the wife of an auto-mechanic, George Wilson. Nick, Tom, and Myrtle retreat to Tom's apartment in the city for a night of partying and strange people. A few days later Nick gets the grand opportunity to do some investigating of his own when he is invited to one of Gatsby's grandiose parties that he throws on Saturday nights. At the party Nick and Gatsby first meet. At this party Gatsby calls upon Jordan and tells her about how he and Daisy were involved in a relationship before he had to leave for the war and his main reason for moving to the north was to be reunited with his long lost love. Through Nick Gatsby and Daisy are able to see each other and an affair begins.
Before long both Tom and George become suspicious of their wives. On the hottest day of the summer Nick, Jordan, Daisy, Gatsby, and Tom drive into the city and go to the Plaza hotel where Tom confronts Gatsby about his love for Daisy. Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy never even loved him(Tom) and only ever wanted to be with him(Gatsby). Because of Gatsby's revealing statements, Tom tells Daisy that Gatsby is a bootlegger and all of his money comes from illegal business. Gatsby and Daisy go back to the Eggs after the debacle. When Nick, Tom and Jordan are driving home through the Valley of Ashes they discover that Myrtle, Tom's mistress, is dead. She has been hit and killed by a speeding yellow car identified to be Gatsby's. Although it was Gatsby's car, Daisy was driving. Sought out to find out who killed his wife, George Wilson goes and finds Tom who tells George that it was Gatsby who killed Myrtle. This leads to the murder of Gatsby and the suicide of George Wilson.
After the death of his great friend, Nick sets back off to the midwest where he came from. He decides to leave the east after Gatsby's funeral due to the dissatisfaction that he has with the people that were involved in Gatsby's life including Daisy and Jordan.
